The D’Arcy Lane Student Newsletter!

D’Arcy Lane is happy to announce the creation of the D’Arcy Lane Student Newsletter, created by the students for the students. Feeling a need for a forum to enable our students to further connect with one another, to share information and help to grow our community, the decision to create a student run Newsletter was born. Tara, a first year student of D’Arcy Lane’s Human Massage Program, who also has a background in graphics and printing, took on a leadership and organizational role in ensuring this Newsletter was generated. Research Literacy

Since the Ontario Board of Regents began regulating massage therapy in 1919, our profession has grown considerably. As we continue to define our place within the healthcare system, the need for credible massage therapy research also grows. Research is a powerful tool that can drive our profession forward through further exploration of the effects of massage therapy, ensuring both its safety and effectiveness and by helping to open a dialogue with other healthcare professionals. Research is supported by our regulatory College through the Massage Therapy Research Fund which seeks to “fund high quality research in the field of massage therapy to support evidence-based practice of massage therapy.” (www.cmto.com) With the need for more […]

Inspiration and Dedication

I wanted to share an older article from Massage Therapy Canada, Summer 2013. This article is written by Ute Gavel, RMT and shares the story of a remarkable RMT named Marion Lemmon whose dedication and passion to her clients and the profession are inspirational. It’s the time of the year when many students are looking to return to their studies or entering into a new program which can sometimes prove to be a bit overwhelming. It is important to remember that dedication and passion are the first steps to success.

The following is an exert from Gavel’s article entitled Accessing the Possibilites: The Story of Marion Lemmon, RMT:

“Quite simply, I am […]

Community Outreach

CoOutreach 1mmunity outreach is a supervised practical program for the benefit of our students to reinforce and acquire further experience in the development of their skills and knowledge in massage therapy. Students must complete 100 hours of outreach before graduating from our Massage Therapy Program.

Outreach is both an enjoyable and educational experience for our students. They occur in a variety of settings including work environments, festivals, community athletic events and at the school. This provides our students the opportunity to practice their skills in different environments. Outreach events also benefit our community by having the students provide massage to the participants.
